Shradh is a Vedic ritual performed to pay homage to departed ancestors, seeking their blessings for peace, prosperity, and family well-being. It is believed that offering food, prayers, and charity during this period brings satisfaction (tṛpti) to the souls of forefathers.


When is Shradh Observed?

Shradh is mainly observed during:

Pitru Paksha (15 days)

A fortnight in the lunar month of Bhadrapada/Āshwin, dedicated exclusively to ancestor worship.

Tithi Shradh

Some families perform Shradh on the death anniversary (Tithi) of their ancestors as per the lunar calendar.
