LAKSHMI Puja

Kojagori Lakshmi Puja (also spelled Kojagari Laxmi Puja) is a Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, and well-being. It is especially celebrated in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and parts of Maharashtra on the full moon night (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashwin, which usually falls in September or October. This night is also known as Sharad Purnima.

Rituals and Traditions:

• Cleanliness: Homes are thoroughly cleaned and decorated to welcome Goddess Lakshmi.

• Alpona (decorative patterns using rice paste) is drawn at the entrance and in the place of worship.

• A Lakshmi idol or picture is placed on a platform and worshipped with flowers, fruits, sweets, and lamps.

• Special offerings (bhog) like narus (coconut sweets), khichuri, fruits, milk-based sweets, and flattened rice with milk are made.

• Families stay awake the entire night or late into the night singing hymns, reading Lakshmi Panchali, and engaging in devotional activities.
