New Home, New Beginnings

Griha Pravesh kit of all dashakarma items

Griha Pravesh is a traditional Hindu housewarming ceremony conducted before a family enters a new home for the first time. The ritual is believed to purify the house, ward off negative energies, and invite blessings of health, happiness, and prosperity.

It typically begins with choosing an auspicious date (muhurat) based on the Hindu calendar. On the day of the ceremony, the main entrance is decorated with flowers, mango leaves, and sacred symbols. A Kalash (pot filled with water or grains, topped with a coconut and leaves) is placed near the entrance as a sign of abundance.

The rituals often include Ganesh Puja to remove obstacles, Vastu Shanti Puja to harmonize the home’s energies, and chanting of mantras. The family then enters the house with the right foot first, carrying the Kalash or other auspicious items, followed by lighting a sacred fire (Havan) and cooking the first meal in the new kitchen.

It is not just a religious practice but also a cultural celebration, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the family’s life.
